Brigham City, the county seat of Box Elder County, sits at the base of the Wellsville Mountains. Demographers tend to consider the city as part of the Ogden Metropolitan Area.
The Wellsville Range is a notably abrupt range in the Northern stretches of the Wasatch Mountains that jut almost five thousand feet above the cities at its base. This is one of the steepest verticals rise between towns and mountain tops on the planet.
The area was settled by Mormon pioneers in the 1850s. The city was renamed after Brigham Young in 1867.
